Providence -- Because of its 16 years of experience with maintenance-free metalizing, RIDOT has specified a metalized protective coating on a replacement bridge in Providence. The Roger Williams Bridge is a through girder type, about 95 feet long with beams and girders from 21 deep to 73 deep. The steel will be metalized with the zinc-15% aluminum alloy. The metalizing work is scheduled to begin soon. We will have more. Columbus --The Ohio DOT has specified metalizing on another bridge located in southern Ohio. This county bridge on Route 321 has been re-decked and its steel beams will be metalized with the zinc aluminum alloy. This project is very similar in size to Ohio's first metalized bridge MRW-229-0118 located on Morrow County Route 229. This bridge was metalized in June of 1985 in conjunction with redecking. The coating will protect the steel for the full life of the new deck. The metalizing work on the Route 321 bridge is to begin within the next week or two and is expected to be completed in mid-November.
